Patrick C. Carey, Esquire joins Cipriani & Werner as a Partner in our Scranton office. Mr. Carey is a 1977 Honors graduate of the University of Scranton and received his law degree from Marquette University Law School in 1980. Mr. Carey graduated with Diploma Privilege and was sworn into the Courts of the state of Wisconsin upon graduation. While at Marquette, Mr. Carey served on the Marquette University Law Review. In his senior year at Marquette, Mr. Carey also served as a law clerk to Judge Bodie of the Wisconsin State Court of Appeals.

Mr. Carey returned to the Scranton area and clerked for the Honorable James M. Walsh, President Judge of the Court of Common Pleas for one year before joining in 1982 what later became the law firm of Fine, Wyatt & Carey.

Mr. Carey is the Co-Chairman of the firms' Medical Malpractice Group and has focused his practice on medical malpractice and professional licensing issues defending physicians and physician assistants insured by all of the major medical professional liability insurance carriers. Mr. Carey has successfully defended well over 150 jury trials on behalf of virtually every specialty, including but not limited to, family practice, internal medicine, gastroenterology, general surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, neurology, plastic surgery, dermatology orthopedics, anesthesiology, ophthalmology, oral surgery, dentistry, podiatry and neurosurgery for the past 33 years with a remarkable record for success resulting in physicians frequently asking for Mr. Carey to be their lawyer of choice. Mr. Carey has also represented lawyers in professional legal malpractice matters for a number of years.

Mr. Carey has also successfully represented physicians on professional issue before the Pennsylvania Licensing Bureau and has also defended complex commercial litigation matters.

Mr. Carey frequently has served as a guest speaker to the medical profession and most recently was asked to address the International College of Interventional Cardiologists at their annual meeting in New York City on the subject of radial and femoral approach to cardiac catheterization and angioplasty. Mr. Carey also authored the Podiatric Risk Management Guide in 2005 and has served a guest speaker to medical staffs at Grand Rounds. He is AV® rated by the Martindale-Hubbell peer review rating system, and is recognized as a 2013 Top Rated Lawyer in Healthcare based on his AV® Preeminent™ rating.

Mr. Carey is licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as well as the states of Wisconsin and New York .  He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, Wisconsin Bar Association (inactive) and the Lackawanna County Bar Association. He resides in Archbald PA with his wife Deborah and their three children Kaitlan, Megan & Sean Patrick.
